FAQsQ. Does the shelter have to have a specially prepared site? A. No, some people choose to prepare an area of hardstanding but most people choose to site them on grass. Remember if you choose a mobile field shelter you can move it along to a fresh area if the inside becomes soiled.
Q. Does the site have to be absolutely flat? A. No, but the flatter the area the better as the shelter will be erected square. Uneven ground can effect its squareness.
Q. How big will the shelter need to be for my two 13.2s?.....my15.2?.. two 16.2s etc... A. Please click here for advice.
Q. If I choose a static shelter or static stable block do I need to put down a concrete base and if so do you do the concrete as well? A. Yes, if you are providing fixed or as we call them static buildings you would need a concrete base and usually a brick plinth to which we can bolt down the buildings. The Horse Shelter Company can quote for groundwork and site preparation providing you are local. However if you prefer to use your own contacts we can just come along and erect your building/s. Q. Do you stain the exterior of the shelters and stables? A. No we don't because we use pressure treated timber, however, if you want to change the colour we recommend you use a proprietary brand such as 'Cuprinol'.
Q. Can we erect the shelter or stable ourselves?
A. Yes, please click here for further advice.
Q. Will we need to get planning permission?
A. Please click here for further advice. Q. Does a mobile shelter need to be secured to the ground? A. Our shelters have fixed aluminium 'storm vents' which helps to avoid gusts of wind trapping in the shelter and lifting it. However, we still recommend you stake the shelter down as we seem suffer more freak weather incidents - you can use fence posts at the corners or some similar method that can be removed if you want to move the shelter.
Q. What flooring should I put inside a mobile shelter? A. It is really your decision. Some customers choose rubber matting, other just put down a straw or shavings bed as they would in a stable. Others leave just the the grass. Personally we put shavings down, they seem to stay in place quite well and aren't eaten as straw would be by one of our 'greedy' horses. Remember, if you choose a mobile shelter it can be moved to fresh ground if the inside becomes heavily soiled.
Q. I asked for a brochure to be posted to me, why haven't you sent one? A. In an effort to provide you, the customer with comprehensive information whilst at the same time keeping our costs down and prices keen we think it's far better to keep our website packed with useful and bang up to date information rather than supply expensive and quickly dated brochures. Apologies to those of you that like hard copy material - as a compromise we hope to shortly provide a PDF brochure that you can view and print out if needs be.
Q. How long will it take to deliver the shelter after I've placed an order? A. Within three days of you placing an order we will send you an order confirmation which will notify you of your delivery date. Delivery is between 2-8 weeks and depends on the order books, so, if you need your shelter within a specific time period we advise contacting us just before you place your order and we can give you an approximate delivery date. If you have a question that's not answered above then please don't hesitate to contact us and we'll do our best to help.
