Will you need planning permission? Because some of our shelters are mobile they do not usually require planning permission (but if you are unsure we always advise you check with your local planning office first as the field you site them on sometimes needs to be deemed for equestrian use). The mobility of the shelter makes it possible to move the shelter from say summer paddocks to winter paddocks. The only requirement is a piece of relatively level ground a chain and a 4x4 towing vehicle. The skids have brackets attached to them that allow you to hook the chains on to tow the shelter. We know from experience that some locations are extremely windy and so we have the additional feature of storm/summer vents so that you can ventilate the shelter to avoid gusts of wind becoming trapped inside, nevertheless we still recommend that you to stake your mobile horse shelter firmly to the ground just to be doubly sure.
If you choose a static shelter or stable you will usually require planning permission and even if you put down a concrete slab and then site a mobile on it you can sometimes still require planning permission. You may also incur additional costs because if your land is still deemed 'agricultural' then you will have to apply for a change of use to 'equestrian'. And finally, bear in mind that the Local Authority will then often charge business council tax on the buildings as soon as they are erected! PLEASE NOTE: The above information is provided in good faith and restrictions could vary as each Local Authority may operate a different policy.
